Urban artist Day-z’s upcoming solo exhibition, ’99 Problems’ brings a collection of provocative new works surrounding themes of contemporary social and political culture, all of which incorporate the tongue-in-cheek interpretation Day-Z has quickly become known for. The show studies the culture of a new era and she plays upon this throughout the show,  contrasting modern issues with famous classic paintings or traditional cartoon characters. Whether this be Snow White as a consumer listening to tunes on her iPhone or Caravaggio’s Saint Jerome sporting a New York baseball cap.

“I am no Michelangelo, but when the Renaissance happened the artists looked to the classical era for inspiration. Likewise I am looking and learning from the best that has come before me and adapting it to the modern day to tell stories about our own time and current history.” – Day-z

Many works contain Day-z’s wit and dark yet playful take on dismal, topical and humanitarian issues such as our obsession with global brands or humankind’s wealth vs the destruction of the planet. With this, the show pays homage to the likes of Banksy and other anti-authoritarian artists who address issues surrounding the downfall of the human species with a touch of humour.
